Why the extent of adsorption both physical and chemical increase with the increase in the surface area of the adsorbent?

Adsorption rate increases linearly as more pores are there on the surface of the adsorbent.
When surface area increases, along with it the number of pores present on it also increases which adsorb the adsorbate on itself.
Hence the extent of adsorption increases as surface area increases.
