Why the front portion of a wind vane has a smaller surface area than its rear end

The front part has a smaller surface area than the rear. When wind blows, it presses more on the rear part of the wind vane as it has greater surface area. The arrow therefore aligns itself such that its tip points in the direction from which the wind is blowing.
