The sun rises earlier of 2 hours because as light from the sun near the horizon enters the earth through thicker layers of air and large distances from the earths atmosphere before reaching our eyes The sun is visible to us about 2 minutes before the actual sunrise and this is due to atmospheric refraction. By actual sunrise we mean the actual crossing of the horizon by the sun......

So, w.r.t., Social Science, I hope you know the latitudinal and longitudinalextent of the mainland is 30 degrees. There is a longitudinal variation of nearly 30 degrees between the easternmost and westernmost parts of the country. As there is a difference of one hour for every 15 degree longitude, there is a time difference of nearly 2 hours between the two corners. This issue is solved by the concept of the Indian Standard Time – the time observed throughout India. It is calculated on the basis of 82.58 degree longitude.
By advancing IST by half an hour, the following advantages are observed:
1. Saving energy – longer use of sunlight results in less use of energy for lighting
2. India cannot adopt the practice of dividing countries into two time zones – there would be chaos at the border of the two zones.
Hence, by advancing IST, the entire country reaps the benefits of DST and two time zones, but with none of the inconveniences or apprehensions expressed. In addition, the country stands to save more energy, especially in the evening load shedding hours, than it may otherwise.
