The British domain wherever in it's origination and practice was generally business. They considered, made, kept up their domain for the business purposes of monopolizing exchange, assets, makes, import, send out all to profit Britain, the British individuals, and particularly the British rich. Just way second did they have the realm for power legislative issues/military against their European and different adversaries.
The Middle East was the same. From controlling the Mideast Britain got flavors, diamonds, gold, natural products, markets for their made items, a course to India/China for more flavors, pearls, gold, organic products, and more markets, and in India minimal effort nearly slave work.
