Why was it so important, particularly for the Americans, for everyone to see what had occurred, either in person or through the press?

Americans were not aware to the extent of murder and horror that happened in the camps so when they finally realized everything going on they worked harder to liberate the rest of the camps. The Soviets brought in reporters and journalists to document and write about everything in the camps in hopes of something like this never happening again and to shed light on what had happened in the camps for all the years prior.
