Mangal Pandey was the first soldier of Indian origin who ignited the revolt of Sepoy Mutiny in West Bengal, Barrackpur. He provoked other soldiers of his regiment to revolt against the greased cartridge.
In order to subside and control the problem of mutiny the East India Company took strong steps and killing of Mangal Pandey was one of the steps they took.
