Muslim League, political organization of India and Pakistan, founded 1906 as the All-India Muslim League by Aga Khan III. Its original purpose was to safeguard the political rights of Muslims in India. An early leader in the League, Muhammad Iqbal, was one of the first to propose (1930) the creation of a separate Muslim India.

Muslim League was formed to support among the Muslims of India approach of devotion to the British Government and to eliminate any misapprehensions that may occur as to the aim of government with regard to any of its measures. To defend and progress the political rights and work for the welfare of Muslims of India and reverentially to stand for their desires and aspirations to Government.
