We cannot see through fog because of scattering…. ... Atoms and molecules in the air, including anything carried in the air like dust or smoke, will scatter light. ... Why can't we see the eyes of people wearing sunglasses, whereas they can see us clearly?
Fog is suspended water droplets suspended in air and these droplets scatter the light. Since the incoming light from various objects gets scattered, eyes can not distinguish one from from another. Similarly, when you are travelling and your car head light falls on the fog, it gets scattered so much that you can’t see the road and other objects.
It is due to these reasons seeing is the most affected component in fog.
