Why were Indian soldiers not scared of losing the war and falling into the hands of the British? What would the British do to them?

Whilst I understand this is a hypothetical question it doesn’t really make much sense in the real world. There are no conceivable reasons why the UK and India would ever go to war with each other. We are not exactly neighbours:) so neither country is ever likely to provoke military aggression from the other. We are trading partners, have long standing cultural ties and on quite friendly terms (sure a little complicated) but it’s not like we view each other enemies. India has more important worries given the military powers on her external borders i.e. China and Pakistan. This fact in itself makes an Indian conflict with Britain even less likely. Other answers have already commented on international alliances. NATO and article 5, Military ties between Russia and India etc. Whoever starts such a conflict the USA would Always support Britain given intervention from Russia against the UK. Inevitably other nations would be drawn into such a conflict on either side which just means catastrophic loss of life destruction of property and decades of poverty world wide. We haven’t seen a Nuclear war (yet) and God willing we won’t…. for no one wins such a conflict… we all just lose. Before it ever got to military aggression we should also consider public opinion in both countries… I’m not an Indian but I doubt there would be much support for such a conflict and as for the British well we would be far more interested to have a cup of tea with you guys, get humiliated at Cricket with you:) (look what happened to our test cricket team in Australia) yikes! and admire your wonderful Royal Enfield motorcycles:) For us, war with a fellow Commonwealth nation is unthinkable. It’s actually far more likely that Britain would come to India’s aid if she were attacked…. (yes really) though I expect our proud Indian friends would not call on Britain for aid given our complicated colonial history. Pity though because we do like you guys and we will always be in your debt given your support in the world wars. We haven’t forgotten the sacrifice and never will.
