why were the British interested in producing opium in India?

hi the Britishers were buying silk and Tea from China the demand Rose so quickly that the import group from 15 million pound to £39 but Britishers were worried because they were not cultivating anything that could be easily sold in China merchants wants to balanced there trade so they want to found a commodity that could be easy sold in China but opium was such a commodity because it was used in medicine in the China when they conquer Bengal they thought that India would be the best place to grow opium therefore they persuaded and force the Indian farmers to grow opium only this was the reason why the British were interested in producing opium in China

The British were interested in producing opium in India because they wanted to make their lands unfertile & barren. This was because they wanted to make Indians very bad in Agriculture..
