The Indian peasants were unwilling to raise opium because the farming of opium needed the resourceful land or the field where the Indian peasants cultivated their pulses. Accordingly, for the farming of opium, producers had to shift their production of pulses or would have to raise pulses on the field left after the farming of opium. Additionally, the cultivation of opium demanded more care than the pulses. And the administration paid a rather low amount for opium as contrasted to the pulses. Hence, Indian peasants were unwilling to raise opium.
