women were dissapointed with the constitution of 1791 because it reduced them as passive citizens. they wanted to enjoy equal political rights as men. they demanded right to vote, to be elected to the assembly and to hold political office. the revolutionary government helped to improve the lives of women. state schools were created and schooling was made compulsory for all girls. their fathers could not force them into marriage against their will. marriage was made into a contract and registered under civil law. women had access to job training and could become artists and run small businesses. the women won the right to vote in france in 1946.
