Widening of the hip bones occurs as part of the female pubertal process, and estrogens (the predominant sex hormones in females) cause a widening of the pelvis as a part of sexual differentiation. Hence females generally have wider hips, permitting childbirth. ... After puberty, hips are generally wider than shoulders.

Hi friend,

Women's have broader hips because in menstruation when the ovaries produces ova the uterus widen because the in case their is fertilization the foetus will need space to get hold in the uterus. If uterus will not be widen then the foetus will not be able to survive. So that uterus can hold the foetus, uterus widen and so women's have broader hips.

Hope it helps..............
