(i) The three kinds of symmetry:

  1. Asymmetry: No division of body into equal halves. Example - Organisms belonging to phylum Porifera such as sponges.
  2. Radial symmetry: If the body of organism is divided into two equal halves it is said to exhibit radial symmetry. Example - Coelenterates, ctenophore and echinoderms.
  3. Bilateral symmetry: When an organism body is divided as left and right halves which are identical to each other it is called as Bilateral symmetry. Example: Annelids and Arthropods

(ii) The three grades of organization met within the Kingdom Animalia:

  1. Cellular level of organization: Porifera (Sponges)  
  2. Tissue level of organization: Ctenophora (Pleurobrachia and Ctenoplana)
  3. Organ level of organization: Annelida (Neris, Hirudinaria)
