Wo alloys a and b are composed of two basic elements. The ratios of the compositions of the two basic elements in the two alloys are 5:3 and 1:2, respectively. A new alloy x is formed by mixing the two alloys a and b in the ratio 4:3. What is the ratio of the composition of the two basic elements in alloy x?

Explanation:

Let the actual amount of A be 4x and actual amount of B be 3x since A and B are in the ratio 4/3

amount of first basic element in the new alloy T (5/8)*4x + (1/3)*3x = (7x)/2

amount of second basic element in the new alloy T (3/8)*4x + (2/3)*3x= (7x)/2

so ratio of first basic element to second basic element: [(7x)/2 ] / [ 7x/2] = 1/1 = 1:1 ( Answer A)4 years agoHelpfull: Yes(26) No(2)

A B

5/8 1/3

/

X

/

x-1/3 5/8-x

(x-1/3)/(5/8-x)=4/3

x=0.5

so the ans is 1:16 years agoHelpfull: Yes(11) No(10)A is 5:3

B is 1:2

A+B= (5+1):(3+2)=6:5------------(1)

total=4:3-----------------------------(2)

subtract (1)-(2)

=2:2

so ans is 1:12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(0)A is 5:3

B is 1:2

So in the mixture (5x+x)/(3x+2x)=4/3

solving x and y

x=2/3

y=4/5

==> x:y=5:6
