workdone is the dot product of force applied on object and displacement of that object.

if \vec{F} is force applied on object, \vec{S} displacement of object.

then, workdone due to object , W = \vec{F}.\vec{S}

or, W = |F||S|cos\theta

where \theta is angle between force and displacement of object.

here you should notice that work is always done only when force moves the body.

hence, from above explanation it is clear that workdone is always done when force moves an object.

[ remember : work can't be done when displacement is perpendicular direction of force applied. as theta = 90° then, workdone = 0]
