If we hold the current carrying conductor in right hand such that thumb is along the direction of current, then the folded fingers will represent the direction of magnetic field lines .

The Right Hand Thumb Rule states that if you are holding a current carrying straight conductor in your right hand such that the thumb points towards the direction of current, then your fingers will wrap around the conductor in the direction of field lines of the magnetic field.

It is also known as Maxwell's Corkscrew Rule.


(This rule is used when the direction of current is given and we're asked to find direction of magnetic field lines or vice versa.)
