Considering it to be an activity for pre-primary students, it is better to use flashcards or puzzles to reinforce the educational concept of differentiating between long and short.
Having hands-on-experience and practically doing it will give a better understanding of the concept than when it is just explained theoretically.
We can use pictures of fruits like banana and apple and ask the children to differentiate which is a longer (banana) and which is shorter (apple). We can also use examples of sticks in the ladder (the vertical being long and the horizontal sticks being short), buildings, different pencils and crayons, etc.
