Dear Sheela,
How are you? I recently came to know about a movement started in India which is shocking and depressing. For starting this movement, people in India needs to be appreciated. Yes! I’m talking about “Palliative Care or care for terminally ill”.
It was first started in Calicut, near Kerala and the number has increased over the period of time. This care takes care of the people who are terminally ill either by giving medicine or by counseling or just giving a shoulder to cry on.
Though, India stands at the bottom in the rankings on the “quality of the death experience”, these palliative care centres needs volunteers like us. I think it is our turn to prove that we can help terminally ill patients in our community to die peacefully. I have already enrolled myself as a volunteer in a centre nearby my place. Hope, you too would do the same.
