Dear Sir,
I would like to draw the attention of all the concerned citizens of the country towards the hazards that the increasing pollution is causing in my part of the country.
Surat is known for its cloth and diamond industry the world over. Yet the facilities for pollution control provided by the factory and mill owners are dismal or non-existent.
The residue from the factories and mills which contain toxic chemicals is discharged into open Nallahs. This residue then seeps into the groundwater and pollutes the underground sources of drinking water. Solid waste comprising of sludge, waste paper, rags, etc. also plays an important role in polluting the air and the soil.
The residents of Surat have to breathe the air full of toxic fumes emanating from tie and dye factories. The vehicular traffic also has no pollution control over it. As the result, there is an added hazard of carbon-mono-oxide poisoning for the citizens. The increasing number of cases of sickness among the people caused by pollution is an indicator of the severity of the problem.
Sir, I would request all the concerned citizens to assist us in our endeavors to fight this increasing menace of pollution. Otherwise, those days are not far behind when the incidence of plague, food poisoning, and epidemics will be a regular feature.
