Sub: Disappearance of green belts and parks in the town.
Sir:
I write to you to express my deep concern over the disappearance of green belts and parks in the town. Illegal construction mafia is usurping the green areas. The green belts are meant for purification of the environment of the area. Everyone knows how highly polluted our city is! Most of the pollution comes from industry, and vehicles. Industry produces air pollution in the form of untreated smoke that has many hazardous gases in it; the industry also discharges thousands of liters of toxic untreated effluents into the river and its tributary. The air and the water of the city have become highly toxic, leading to many health complications.
Some representatives from our area had met the Mayor of the city and requested to him to preserve the green belt in the area near our colony. The Mayor had granted permission for the same. We have the documents of his formal permission with us. A few days ago, a company started construction work. On enquiring we came to know a new housing complex is going to be constructed in the green belt. This will again aggravate the pollution problem in our area. I don’t need to say how important trees are for the purification of the environment.
Similarly public parks are also disappearing. Children and elders have no place to play and to walk.Through the columns of your esteemed daily I appeal to the concerned authorities and the environment ministry to do something in this regard. I am hopeful you will give my views enough space in your reputed daily and help in furthering the cause.
Thanking you,
Yours truly,
Priyanka
