Remote Sensing is the science in which the information about an object such as planet Earth’s land water areas images are acquired by using remote sensing satellites that are usually operated from a remote location.

It depends upon the measurement of electromagnetic energy reflected or emitted.

These devices are placed in sun-synchronous orbits of the Earth which enables them to take photos of a specific location or place of the earth.

1. Remote sensing was first used in 1858 by the French map-makers. They used hot air balloons and ancient cameras to take inclined aerial photographs of the landscape.  

2. During World War I, air planes were used to take aerial images of the war zone to gather information about the position and movement of the enemy troops.  

3. After the war, aerial images were taken from various angles to create detailed and accurate maps of the territories.  

3. The second revolution in remote sensing technology began in 1970s with the initiate of Earth Resource Technology Satellite (ERTS) which was later renamed as LANDSAT in 1975.
