Secularism is a belief system that rejects religion, or the belief that religion shouldnot be part of the affairs of the state or part of public education. The principles of separation of church and state and of keeping religion out of the public school system are an example ofsecularism.

Secularism:

  • The basic concept of secularism is to be separated from the notion and bindings of a religion.
  • A person with secular ideology is less likely to be affected by religious beliefs but more likely to be moved by scientific and rational advancements and thoughts.
  • It conveys that religion should be separated from concepts like politics, social, economic and cultural aspects of life.
  • If a state is free from religious influences then it is believed that the state can progress more rationally which is what moves the intellectuals. However, it doesn’t mean to suppress the people who believe in religion and don’t deny them of equal opportunities.
