The All India Trade Union Congress was founded in 1920, on Bombay, as a part of the Indian National Congress. The first president of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) was Lala Lajpat Rai. Its first president was Diwan Chamanlal.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

The main aim of the AITUC was to unite the labourers under one umbrella, so as to strengthen the labours movement.

It was also founded to make India a part of the League of Nation's labour organisation.

Another aim of the AITUC was betterment of economic condition of the labourers.

It also aimed at providing better work environment by introducing fixed working hours and increase in wages.
