Here are both the character sketches. Hope this would help you compare and contrast both their characters and their relationship ....

>>>The grand daughter of this story is just like any small kid, jovial and helpful. At first she acted very naive when she was asked to be taught by her grand mother. Later, she realised the importance of her plea. She was a very good and dedicated teacher who fulfilled a great task of teaching her grand mother the Kannada alphabet at such an old age. She was literate and thus, knew the respect and importance of education in one's life. She was also humble enough to accept her grand mother's gift as guru dakshina. (to be continued based on your own discretion.)

>>>The grandmother in the story was sixty-two years old when Sudha taught her the Kannada alphabet. She was illiterate and got married at an early age, and then, bore children. However, as and when she regretted not being sent to school, she made sure that her grandchildren studied well. She had never visited Kashi and thus, was very interested in knowing about the story of the novel Kashi Yatre which was published in segments in the Karamveera weekly. She was a strong-willed and determined lady who worked very hard and practised very sincerely in order to learn Kannada. Within a promised time span, she could very well read and write. She paid respect to her teacher, her granddaughter by touching her feet and gifting her a frock as a gurudakshina. This shows that she knew the scriptures well which says that respect does not abide the rules of age or gender. This also shows that she was humble, grateful and cultured.

Krishtakka was not only the narrator’s grandmother but also her student. She had a great zeal to learn to read Kannada and to become independent. She wanted to overcome her inability to read. She had been born in an era when education for women was not given much importance. Later, she understood the importance of education in life and thus, wanted her children to study well. So , I think the relationship also like 'guru' and 'sihya'.
