It was an act passed by imperial legislative council in hurry in 1919.

This gave enormous power to political leaders like they can detain political leaders in prison for 2 years without any permission.

Thus for this inhumane act gandhiji decided to launch a nationwide satyagraha by having success at the satyagrahas organised earlier.

Thus it led too much violence also.

one of which was jallianwala bagh massacre.
