Communication is very important for the success of any organization. But there are many factors which can prevent smooth communication. In a company there can be barriers like cultural diversity, language, gender differences, physical separation and status differences.

Communication barriers can be classified as - physical barriers, socio-psychological barriers, semantic and language barriers, and organizational barriers. So barriers to communication refer to the obstacles in a workplace that prevent effective exchange of thoughts or ideas.

They can be as simple as, noise and distractions in the workplace, lack of attention, and use of jargon. Or they can be complex like, emotional barriers and taboos, and differences in perception and viewpoint.
