to contain the agitations the government past two acts known as Rowlatt Act 1919 named after sir Sydney Rowlatt the President of a committee which have drafted the bills the act implied a rest of a person without warrant ,in camera trial that is try in seclusion, restrictions on movements of individual ,suspension of rights of habeas corpus the act came like a sudden blow to the Indians who were expecting self governance. meetings were held all over the country to express popular disapproval of the acts and the grace Gaye full support to the mass agitation. it was at this time that Mahatma Gandhi came to the forefront and took the leadership of the freedom movement
