Answer:

→The male gametophytes are called as the pollen grains.

→ Pollen grains are spherical in structure and are 25 - 50 micrometres in diameter.

→ They consist of two layers, the outer wall exine and the inner wall intine.

→ Exine is hard and is made up of sporopollenin which is one of the hardest and most resistant organic material.

→ The sites where sporopollenin is absent is called as the germ pores.

→ Intine is made up of cellulose and pectin.

→ A mature pollen grain contains two cells: vegetative cell and generative cell.

→ The vegetative cell is comparitively bigger, has an irregularly shaped nucleus and acts as a food reserve.

→ The generative cell is small and spindle shaped with dense cytoplasm.

→ Pollen grains are rich in nutrients and are used as food supplements in western countries.
