In most of the cases E. histolytica infections are asymptomatic and the patient is unaware of the infection. Mostly there are 10% chances of disease occurrence. As the trophozoites excyst they inhabit the bowel, living on the mucous surface and feed on bacteria and other food material. Then, trophozoites move through the mucus surface in response to unknown stimuli and come in contact with the epithelial cell layer to start the pathological process.
