I was fast asleep. Suddenly there was a knock at the door'. I
woke up in consternation. Such loud knocking in the dead of night scares one to
death, so was I. my parents woke up too. We switched on the lights opened the
door. To our utter surprise, there was no one! We kept standing for a while
indecisively in the porch. All lights of our neighbours off! They might not
have heard the noise!



   So we came inside and again retired to bed for the rest of
the night. We had hardly fallen asleep when again the loud knocking woke us up.
As I rushed to the door and opened it, nothing could be found. No human being,
no thief, no animal, no gale!



     I was sure someone was playing pranks on us! But who? I asked
my parents to come inside. I shared my doubts with them. So I decided to watch.
We came inside, bolted the doors, locked them, and switched off the lights. But
I did not go to bed. Instead I crouched near the window that overlooked our
gate and the walls. I did not have to wait long. The mischievous son of our neighbor,
along with his cousin jumped over the ball and tiptoed towards the door for
another knocking bout.



     However, before he could do, I switched all the lights on
and shouted from the window. They were caught red-handed. I asked my dad to
call the police. However, my dad woke the culprit’s parents and reported the
matter. The angry father of the miscreant took him to task and apologized to my
father for the inconvenience.



   Thus I felt like a Sherlock Holmes that night!
