here is your answer ☺
____________________________
ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM ☺
=> These are the long tubes present through out the cytoplasm which are interlinked.
=> Endoplasmic reticulum is of 2 types.
☺RER- which contains ribosome on them
☺SER- which does not contain ribosomes on them.
________________________________
FUNCTIONS:-
=> E.R. helps in transportation of the substances throughout the cytoplasm and in between plasma membrane and cytoplasm and nucleus and cytoplasm.
=> R.E.R helps in synthesis of proteins.
=> S.E.R. helps in synthesis of lipids.
=> S.E.R in vertebrate liver cells ,helps in detoxifying toxic chemicals. ( liver cells are called hepatocytes).

Electron microscopic studies of eukaryotic cells reveal the presence of a network or reticulum of tiny tubular structures scattered in the cytoplasm that is called Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER). Hence, ER divides the intracellular space intwo two distinct compartments, i.e., luminal (inside ER) and extra luminal (cytoplasm) compartments.
The ER often shows ribosomes attached to their outer surface. The endoplasmic reticulum bearing ribosomes on their surface is called rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER). In the absence of ribosomes they appear smooth and are called smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER).
