Blood is a special connective tissue consisting of formed elements and plasma.

There are various functions of blood.

• regulate body temperature
• transport of food, dissolved gases
• contain formed elements that help in defence, cloting and coagulation.

COMPOSITION OF BLOOD:-

1. plasma

• straw coloured viscous fluid
• 55% of blood
• it contains 90-92% of water and 6-8% proteins
• fibrinogen, globulin and albumin are major proteins
• it also contains some minerals like Na+, Ca+2, Mg+2, HCO3-, Cl- etc.
• factors for clotting or coagulation are also present but in inactive form..

2.Formed elements

• erythrocyte+leucocyte + thrombocytes

blood is a suspension of blood elements (erythrocytes , leukocytes , and platelets) in blood plasma......blood plasma making up the liquid portion of blood is a colloid solution of organic and inorganic substances ( electrolytes , nutrients, proteins, hormones, etc. ) with an addition of dissolved blood gases
