1) administrative functions:-preparation of electoral rolls,revising,them,demarcationof constituencies,announcingthe election schedule,receivingthe nominations,scrutinizing,makingof final list candidates,giving recognitions to the political parties,allotment of symbol to the parties,framing and implementation of code of conduct,appintment of observers or inquiry officer's to address the malpractices in the elections.

2) Advisory functions:-
the election commission advises the president and the governor of the states regarding the disqualification of the people's representatives to the parliament and the state legislatures.

3)Quasi judical functions:-

the election commission solves the disputes between parties in this way it works as Quasi judical authority
