Answer:

"Character is what you are in the dark." -Dwight Lyman Moody. This means that true reflection of anyone's character is visible when the person is in tough situation. When people get placed in a tough position and if nobody is around a person is more likely to show their true colors.

In the short  the protagonist in "Lather and nothing else" the barber is struggling "in the dark"- which is his mind-. The character acts cool calm and collected which is not really what the character is feeling."Confound the hour he entered my shop! I am a revolutionary but not a murderer. And it would be so easy to kill him. He deserves it. Or does he? No!" (Tellez 3) This means that the protagonist is fighting his true colors from his enemy. He is revolutionary and the enemy is not his is the caption of the opposite party.

In the  next short story the protagonist is Rainsford is the character that tries to get away from the general and struggles to tell the general that he does not agree with what the general does to humans mostly to the men and whats to leave the island."Rainsford had fought his way through the bush for two hours. “I must keep my nerve. I must keep my nerve,” he said through tight teeth."( Connell 2). The character "must keep his cool and or nerve" in order to cover how he is really feeling.

Both of the passages conclude that who you are in "the dark" is who you truly are.
