Natural Vegetation:

                               Natural vegetation refers to the plant life of a region which has grown naturally without human aid. They are also termed as 'Flora'. The species of plants that have completely disappeared from the forests are called 'extinct species'. Those plants that are on the verge of extinction are called 'endangered species'. Two significant factors controlling the natural vegetation of India are rainfall and temperature. Soil also contributes to the natural vegetation.

Natural vegetation is divided into five types in India namely

i) Tropical evergreen forests.

ii) Tropical monsoon forests.

iii) Tropical thorn and shrubs forests.

iv) Mangrove forests.

v) Himalayan vegetation.

Forest resources in India.

                               Forests constitute almost 23 per cent of the total land area in India. A forest is a natural, self-sustaining community created by the presence of trees. Wood is the main product obtained from the forest resources in India. Other products are Rubber, Timber, Essential oils, Medicines, spices, etc.

The forests in India have categorized as

i) National parks

ii) Wildlife sanctuaries

iii) Biosphere reserves.
