A journey to the Tropics of Africa
Explanation:
It was on the eve of the new year, and everyone was excited as it is always a culture in our family to visit our grandparents back in Delhi. This new year was, however different as we were going to visit Kenya where we had relatives who had migrated to Kenya during the construction of the Kenya Uganda railway.
The flight took around eight hours, and we were in the tropics of Africa and in the city under the sun, Nairobi. We were, however, going to visit the Nairobi and Tsavo National park with our cousins and end the journey by going to Mount Kenya through the great rift valley.
It is here that I learnt that some siblings to my great grandfather were taken as labourers to go and construct the railway to Uganda by the British. Upon completion, however, they decided to stay back in Kenya, where they are citizens today. It is at Thomson Falls where they settled which is home to the historic 72-metre historic fall that is located a few miles from the equator.
This was my best trip ever, and I was able to meet new people and interact with our distant relatives who were even speaking in local dialects. I sure dream of going back and seeing the lions, cheetas, elephants, and mountains under the tropics.
