Gandhara School of Art : It is a school of Indian Iconography. The Mathura School laid the foundation of Indian Iconography.


The Gandhara School of Art came into existence in 2nd Century B.C.E It existed in Afghanistan and Eastern countries. Also, It had a Greek and Persian influence.

●The materials used to make sculpture were Grey sandstone, mud, lime, and stucco.

●Grey sandstones is more prominently used in Gandhara school of arts.

●The Gandhara school imagesare known for their anatomical accurate, spatial depth and for shortening.

●The sculpture in Gandhara style are at Taxila, Peshawar and North West Forntier.
