Electrical energy generation and it's effects on the environment depends on the process that is used to produce the electrical energy.

Electricity generation using fossil fuels:

Burning of fossil fuels like coal ,natural gas lead to emission of harmful gases like carbon dioxide,nitrogen dioxide produced during the burning of fossil fuels lead environment hazards such as global warming.

Thus ,electricity generation from fossil fuels is not environment friendly.
