  • The reaction involves two steps : 1) Reaction of Grignard reagent CH3MgBr with Acetaldehyde
  • 2) This leads to breakage of double bond of carbonyl C and Oxygen.
  • It forms an adduct CH3CCH3H+O-MgBr.
  • This adduct is now hydrolysed , so the bond between O- and MgBr breakes to form an alcohol and an MgOHBr.
  • Thus the overall reaction leads to formation of Propane-2-ol and MgOHBr.
