Summary on 'father teaches me to be prompt'
The father of the author always wanted his children to be on time for breakfast. But, the author was never on time, unlike his brother George. Pleased with the promptness of George, father gave him a watch engraved with the words' George Parmly Day, Always on Time', but he did not give the same to the author.
Father explained that he would give him the watch when he gets down early to breakfast. The mother, against the father, gave the author a really valuable watch and asked him to be very careful of it. The author tried to protect the watch but every time the watch broke, he had to repair it with his pocket money which was not enough.
He got fed up with this and gave up on the old watch. He decided to get the durable watch which the father got for him and for this, he gradually started to get to breakfast early and to be prompt.
