Answer:Central Idea of he Poem
The poem The Trees’ by Adrienne Rich shows the conflict between man and nature. With the growth and development of society, human beings have used nature for their own benefit and caused a lot of harm to it. In order to use natural resources like forests, minerals etc. men have forgotten the importance of nature. The poet wants to give the message that the presence of a few trees inside our homes does not become equal to nature, it is a very false idea of nature. Real nature is outside, in the forests that we have destroyed.
The trees in the speaker’s house want to break the walls of the house and move to the forest which has become empty. The birds can sit again on their branches, the insects can hide there and the sun rays can disappear under the shadow of the trees. The poem tells us how the trees want to break free from the walls that humans have put around them, and go out in the forest.

Answer: The central idea of the poem 'The Trees' written by Adrienne Rich is about the coming out of women from the safe space of their home, the nervousness, the excitement to explore, the longing to discover what is out there from the window and getting ready to take on the world.
Explanation: In the poem, the Trees were used to symbolically represent women in the society.
The line, 'The trees inside are moving out into the forest ', means women getting out from the confine of their houses, into the open forest/world.
The line, 'no sun bury its feet in shadow', is a personification of women. No women bury their roots in shadow, instead run to the forest to embrace its open wildness.
The third stanza of the poem refers to the desire of the women to leave the house and explore while 'the night is fresh, the whole moon shines in a sky still open' as she writes it in her letters, the longing to depart from home.
The last stanza of the poem talks about the whispering in her head which will subside 'tomorrow' as she puts her feet out and spread her wings, where the forest stumble forward to greet her and the wind rushes to meet her.
