Shiwaliks is the southernmost range of the Himalayas. It is also known as the Outer-Himalayas. Its main characteristics are as follows:
(i) It is most prominent in the western half of the Himalayan range.
(ii) It is very much prone to earthquakes and landslides.

(iii) It is made of loose river deposits.

(iv) in this region, the problem of soil erosion is the worst

<b>The outermost range of Himalaya is called Siwalik.


They extend over a width of 1050 km and have an altitude varrying between 900 and 1100 metres.


These ranges are composed of unvonsolidated sediments brought down by the rivers from the main Himalayan ranges located farther North.
