concept : degree is the value of the highest exponent of any expression except constant in the polynomial.

for example, \bf{a_0x^n}+a_1x^{(n-1)}+a_2x^{(n-2)}+a_3x^{(n-3)}+ ..... +a_nx^0 is an polynomial of degree n, because n is the value of the highest exponent (shown in bold ).

now come to the point,

given polynomial is 5x³ + 4x² + 7x

do you tell me the value of the highest exponent of above polynomial ?

of course, 3 ( power of bold underlined term.)

hence, degree of polynomial is 3

CONCEPT TO BE IMPLEMENTED

POLYNOMIAL

Polynomial is a mathematical expression consisting of constants, variables and exponents, that can be combined using addition, subtraction, multiplication.

DEGREE OF A POLYNOMIAL

Degree of a polynomial is defined as the highest power of its variable that appears with nonzero coefficient

When a polynomial has more than one variable then the degree of the polynomial is obtained by adding the exponents of each variable in each term.

TO DETERMINE

The degree of the given polynomial 5x³+4x²+7x

CALCULATION

Here the variable is x

Also the highest power of x in the polynomial with non zero coefficient is 3

Hence the degree of the polynomial is 3
