The food chain starts with producers which produce their own food say microscopic phytoplankton. than comes the primary consumers which feed on the producers say tadpoles. than are the secondary consumer who feed on primary consumers say fishes. than finally the decomposers who feed on the dead bodies of these consumers say fungi.

The purpose of the food web is to show what animals and plants consume and how they find it. The pond ecosystem includes algae, fungi, microorganisms, plants and fishes. Producers in a pond food web are organisms that through photosynthesis, manufacture their own food through sunlight.

Primary consumers for example herbivores are organisms that feed directly upon the producers for example tadpole.

Secondary consumers for example fish are organisms that feed upon or consume, the primary consumers.

Decomposers like bacteria  and fungi, break down the dead and decaying bodies of any of the other organisms in the pond and recycle their nutrients.
