The name of the respiratory pigment present in prawn is haemocyanin. The haemocyanin is dissolved in plasma and carries oxygen to tissue cells in prawns.

It is a protein which carries oxygen and transports it to the different parts of the body of some spineless animals. It has two copper atoms which bind single oxygen molecule.

Unlike haemoglobin, haemocyanin is not bound to blood cells. Haemolymph carries the haemocyanin molecules.
