The reaction is given by, CuO + 2HCl \rightarrow CuCl_2 + H_2O

Explanation:

  • Copper itself cannot react with HCl. But the reaction of copper oxide is possible with HCl as its an oxide of a metal. Every reaction of a metal with an acid is termed as a redox reaction.
  • Metal oxides usually have the characteristics of bases which is why their reaction with acids is possible. This particular reaction takes place between a weak base and a strong acid. The output of this reaction is Copper Dichloride along with water.
