India has 2 groups of islands . Lakshadweep island lies in Arabian sea to southwest of mainland. Andaman and Nicobar island lies in Bay of Bengal to southeast of mainland . Lakshadweep is composed of small coral islands . Andaman and Nicobar are bigger in size and are more numerous and scattered . The entire group of islands are divided into Andaman( in the north ) and Nicobar( in the south. )Both these island groups are rich in flora and fauna and are of great strategic importance of country.
