The Treaty of Versailles (French: Traité de Versailles) was one of the peace treaties at the end of World War I. It ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers. It was signed on 28 June 1919, exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

Answer: The Treaty of Versailles was on of the results of the First World War and a major cause of the Second World War.
After the course of the First World War the victorious powers met in a conference, first in Versailles and then in Paris, between January and June 1919. The number of countries participated was 27. Treaty was the major decision of Woodrow Wilson the president of USA, Lloyd George the prime minister of Britain and George Clemenceau the prime minister of France.
Terms of the Treaty:
- The Treaty declared Germany the guilty of the war.
- Germany was demanded a penalty of 33 billion dollars.
- Germany had to cede her merchant ships to Allies.
- Had to supply a huge amount of coal to France, Italy and Belgium for 10 years.
- The Rhine valley was to be controlled by the Allied Troops for 15 years.
- Lost Alsace Lorraine to France, Eupen - et - Malmedy to to Belgium and Schleswige to Denmark.
- Germany ceded parts of her pre war territories to Denmark, Belgium, Poland, Czechoslovakia and France.
- SAAR was ceded to France for 15 years.
- Lost all her colonies to France, Belgium, England etc.
- Germany had to decrease its armaments.
- Creation of Turkish states with free trade in Dardanelles.
- Absolute freedom of sea trade and navigation with no charges.
- Evacuation of Russian territories.
- Formation of Justice League.
