Longitudes are also known by the name ‘Meridians’ while Latitudes are also called ‘Parallels’.

Longitudes run from North to South and meet at the poles. They are at their farthest from each other, at the equator and narrow as they move towards the pole. The Zero Degree Meridian is called the Prime Meridian and passes over the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England.

The latitudes on the other hand do not converge or meet each other. They start at the equator and run parallel to each other from East to West. The equator is the Zero Degree Parallel.
